A genuinely free reader for the books you already own — your files stay on your device, never our servers.
Drag in a book and you're reading. No subscription, ever — pay once for everything around it.
The reader is free — highlights, dictionary, translation, read-aloud, themes, all of it. No trial, no account, no caps. Not a teaser for a paid tier.
Your library, reading position, highlights and files stay on your device or in your own cloud. Fully offline. Never hosted, never tracked, never locked in.
Plus is a single purchase — sync across devices, your cloud shelf, comics and manga. Pay once and it is yours. There is no monthly anything.
Everything here is free, forever. No account, no caps. The interface keeps quiet; your covers carry the colour.
Three ways to see your shelf: a Gallery of covers, a Journal that reads your library back to you, and a Sheet you can sort. Tag, favorite, pin, search.
Drag in a file, a folder, or a whole Calibre library. Hundreds of books import in the background, covers and metadata intact, while you keep browsing.
Favorite, finish or pin a book with a tap. Chartreuse tabs sit right on the cover. Inside, five highlight colours and notes for the passages you keep.
Pages, not an endless scroll. A chapter bar, an honest estimate of what’s left, contents and full-text search, footnotes that open in place.
Dictionary, Wikipedia, translation into a dozen languages, read-aloud in your device’s own voices with a sleep timer. None of it takes you off the page.
One file backs up your whole library, and every highlight and note leaves as plain Markdown. The door is never locked — that is rather the point.

read.tomen.app, an installable PWA that works fully offline.
The Windows build is done and updates itself — just code-signing left before the public download. macOS & Linux follow.
The Android build runs; Play Store billing is the last step. Your one purchase will already cover it.

Built touch-first. Fluid on a phone, a tablet, or a trackpad. Every control is a gesture away, and the page stays out of the way.
Squeeze the library to size your covers, or the page to step type up and down.
Edges turn the page; the centre summons the menu. Comics flip left-to-right or right-to-left.
Pull the reader menu in when you want it: contents, marks, type, look-ups. Then send it away.
Enter selection mode with a swipe, then tap to grab a word, a sentence, or a whole paragraph — and nudge each end by a word.
Press and hold the centre to drop a return marker, then jump back to it with one tap. Hold an edge to skip a chapter.
Drag and zoom into any panel; double-tap to reset. Single, spread, and webtoon flows too.
It looks right out of the box, with Auto following your system, and rewards tuning. Eight reading themes and three reading faces come free; save any look as a profile and bring it back in a tap. Accent colours, four experimental themes and photographic filters come with Plus.

The lamplighter moved house to house as the evening thinned to blue, and where he touched the flame the street woke one window at a time.
She watched from the landing — the hour she liked best, the one she could fold up and keep in a pocket against the colder months.
The reader is free and complete. Plus is for everything around it: your Dropbox shelf, comics & manga, every device on the same page. One payment, forever.
Point Tomen at the folder your books already live in, a Calibre library or a decade of comics, and the whole shelf appears, covers and all. Nothing downloads until you open a book, so hundreds of books cost your device almost nothing.
The files never move. You choose the folder in Dropbox’s own window, and Tomen takes read-only access. It cannot edit or delete a thing you own.
No separate app: your comics sit beside your novels, searchable and sortable like everything else. Single page, two-page spread or webtoon scroll, either direction, pinch-zoom into any panel.
Turn a page or drop a highlight on one device and it lands on the others in about a second. Position, highlights, notes, tags, wordbook, collections, even your look if you ask. Only your reading state travels; your files never leave your device.
Save any word you look up, with the sentence and the book it came from. Then browse and export your growing wordbook.
Group books into custom collections: a series, a course, a to-read pile. They follow you across every device.
Nine accent colours, four experimental themes, photographic filters for your covers and pages, and per-book typography: a serif for the novel, monospace for the manual, reopened exactly so.
On desktop, browse and download straight from your own OPDS catalog server — Calibre-Web, Komga, Kavita, anything that speaks OPDS.
Try all of it, free for 30 days.
No card, nothing to cancel. When it ends, you go back to the free reader.
No subscription — one payment, yours forever. Read everywhere: the web today, desktop and Android on the way.
No card required. 30 days, then back to the free reader. Trial survives a reinstall.
Not to read. An account is just an email, no password. It only carries your Tomen Plus licence and syncs your reading across devices.
Your books, progress and highlights live on your device. No ads, no tracking, nothing sold. Your files are never uploaded. Sync moves only your reading state, scoped to your account.
With Plus, your position, highlights, notes, tags, wordbook and collections stay in sync. Your other open devices update in about a second. Only your reading state travels; the book files never do.
It reads it, and nothing more. Tomen asks Dropbox for read-only access, and the permission screen will say so. That means it cannot edit, move or delete anything you own, even by accident. You choose the folder in Dropbox’s own window, not ours. When you open a book it comes straight from Dropbox to your device; no server of ours ever sees it.
That's the point. Sideloaded EPUBs with broken metadata, odd encodings, big comic archives: Tomen is built for the real-world files a library accumulates, not just pristine ones. DRM-locked files are the one exception.
You keep reading. Tomen is local-first: the reader works offline, your books are on your device, and one file backs up your whole library — every highlight and note exports as plain Markdown. If sync ever stopped, you'd lose a convenience, not a page.
No. No chatbot, no “summarise this chapter”, no generated anything. Tomen is a reader — it shows you the book and gets out of the way. Dictionary, translation and read-aloud use your device’s own tools, not a model of ours.
Email [email protected] and a real person answers — bugs get fixed, and good suggestions get built. For purchases, see the refund policy.
The complete reader is free, no account needed. Tomen Plus is a one-time $29. Yours on every device, forever.
